Losing power for a few hours is an inconvenience, but losing power for a few days can be a real hardship. This portable generator and inverter produces up to 1,000 watts, or enough to power a dorm-size refrigerator, one coffee maker or about 20 laptops. And at just 28 pounds it's easy to move around.

The "cleaner" electricity (without fluctuation) produced is safe for use with delicate electronics, says the manufacturer.

One tankful of gasoline (about 6/10ths of a gallon) will power the four-stroke, air-cooled engine for about 12 hours.

It meets emission regulations in all 50 states.
