Pretty, petite and easy to use, the Aspen is the smallest of Vermont Castings cast-iron, enamel finish wood stoves.
With a maximum production of 18,000 BTUs per hour, the stove is designed to heat a cottage or a room rather than a whole house. A flat top plate can accommodate a pot making this stove a good back-up heater when power goes out.
Those who heat with wood only occasionally will like that the stove does not have a catalytic after-burner. That makes the stove affordable, fuss-free to use, and easy and inexpensive to maintain. The trade-off is a less efficient burn (around 70 percent), but the company points out the stoves are made in the US from 100 percent recycled iron. The foundry itself, located in Vermont, uses a combination of renewable and clean energy sources.
The Aspen comes in black or burgundy enamel.
