Toyo's new Oil Miser direct vent heater is another weapon for homeowners besieged by high oil prices. It uses the same No. 2 oil as central furnaces. But with a 90 percent burn efficiency, the heater can shave up to 40 percent off your oil bill says the manufacturer.
It shifts between low, medium and high burn modes and turns itself off when the room temperature reaches four degrees above the chosen setting. Use it to supplement central heat or to replace it if your house is less than 1,150 square feet.
A programmable digital panel displays room temperature and heater settings. The heater requires electricity to run its fan and controls.
Easy to install (Toyo claims in two hours), the unit requires a 3” hole in an outside wall for venting. If you're not already burning oil, you'll also need an external fuel storage tank. The heater can also burn No. 1 oil, K1 kerosene, or ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel).
