Learn more about Acorn Manufacturing:
by Kendall Holmes, Ebricks.com
Blacksmiths make thumb latches and strap hinges by beating and hammering heated metal into shape by hand.

Acorn Manufacturing uses machines to replicate the process. While the company's products aren't as quirky and unique as hand-forged hardware, its designers have paid close attention to detail.

As a result, the company's products are solid replicas of hand-forged hardware, and they're both affordable and available at lumber yards and hardware stores on a moment's notice.

The rim latch set shown here works nicely with site-made board-and-batten doors. To complete the look, hang the doors with the company's strap hinges or cabinet door hinges.
