Centuries ago, thrifty homeowners wove together the good sections of old Persian rugs to form a new carpet of vibrant color and design.
Manufacturer Flor offers a modern take on this old practice with its Souk Chic area rug kit.
Six 19.7” square tiles and fastening strips are included in the kit. You'll need two kits will make a 5' x 7' area rug.
Since all Flor's modular tiles are the same size and use the same fastening system, you can combine more economical plain tiles with the colorful ones for a larger rug, runner or even a whole room. The tiles stick to each other, rather than the floor, to form a seamless-looking non-skid carpet. Carpet tiles can be vacuumed and steam cleaned like any carpet. But unlike other wall-to-wall carpeting, this one can be moved from room to room or even to another house. It's also easy to replace damaged or worn squares. The non-skid backing will not mar the floor beneath.
Tight or irregular space? The tiles can be cut with a carpet knife and then fastened together.
Flor has been positioning itself as a green company. Many of its offerings, including this one, are made partly with recycled materials. The company says it's working on tiles of 100 percent recycled materials. Tiles themselves are fully recyclable, and the company will take back any used tiles.
Tiles come in a range or colors, textures and patterns with a price range of $1.86 to $9.66 per square foot. You can opt to go it on your own with design, or use one of the company's kits.
