If you like the idea of touch free faucets but don't want to take out a second mortgage to buy one, you might look at the offerings of Sam's Club, the warehouse chain of retailing giant Wal-Mart.
This solid brass bathroom faucet comes in polished brass (shown) or satin chrome finish and is powered by direct current or batteries.
The standard kit comes with a control box, filter, spout hose, sensor cable, spout and four D cell batteries. The 6-volt AC kit with battery backup is sold separately.
The infrared motion sensor can be adjusted from two to six inches with the touch of a button.
Sam's Club claims this faucet uses up to 70 percent less water than a manual faucet. Who knows? It might even get your kids to wash their hands more.
Speaking of kids, the elongated spout helps prevent prevents splashing. The water will turn off automatically after 50 seconds.
Suitable for one or three hole installations, the faucet sells online directly through Sam's Club for $275 to $300. It does not include the mixing valve that is standard on most higher priced faucets. You'll have to pay an additional $85 for that. The AC adapter sells directly through the manufacturer for about $15.
While many of items sold through Sam's Club are manufactured in China, this faucet is manufactured and assembled in the US by AMTC.
The faucet complies with ADA standards for people with disabilities and is UL approved. Under normal use the batteries provide 400,000 uses. A solid red light on the sensor indicates low batteries.
