Does your home suffer from outlet wars? That's when several household members (or even a single person) try to charge cell phones, MP3 players, electronic organizers -- all with bulky plugs -- at the same outlet. When our household held several teenagers, invariably one of them would solve the problem by unplugging a sibling's device to make way for their own. Which created problems of a different sort.
Well, here's a $10 invention that can simplify life as all our modern conveniences clutter it.
The Rotating Duplex Outlet from the aptly named 360 Electrical has rotating top and bottom sockets. That means two devices with oddly shaped plugs can share the same outlet.
The receptacle fits standard sized wall boxes and comes with a snap-on wall plate. The outlets can rotate to 18 different positions, with power staying on all the while.
In addition to the predictable white, ivory, and almond, the outlet is available in black, which would look snazzy with the granite countertops found in so many kitchens these days.
The Rotating Duplex Outlet was designed by an engineer who admits to venting frustration at trying to charge two cell phones in a single hotel room outlet by hurling one of the devices across the room.
So far only a two-outlet, 15 Amp model is available, but a power strip and a ground fault circuit interrupter are in the works.
