Big-box stores such as Lowes and Home Depot might not be the first place you'd think to look when shopping for a pellet stove.
But the big-boxes might be where you'll end up if you're on a budget.
That's because both chains, along with a variety of regional and national hardware store chains, offer affordable, rugged (and yes, American-made) pellet stoves from England's Stove Works.
The company's Englander 25-PDVC - pictured here - happens to occupy a spot on the hearth in my own kitchen. It's burning as I write this review, in fact.
Englander stoves are fairly basic in styling - but they're well built, and they retail for hundreds of dollars less than most of their competitors.
They're also designed with do-it-yourself servicing in mind should any of the stove's moving parts need replacement in the future.
The stove pictured here has brass trim around the door and just below the base of the door. Both are optional - but available at a modest price by mail from the manufacturer.
