Twinkling stars shine down from a night sky, but wait, you're not outside. Fiber optics, a small wheel and a halogen lamp transform inside spaces into starry skies with this Star Ceiling kit.
Acrylic optic fibers transmit light from a halogen lamp. A "twinkle wheel" with alternating opaque and transparent sections rotates in front of the lamp to create the twinkling effect.
Lulling little ones to sleep in a nursery is an obvious use for the kit, but it can also be used in hot tub rooms, home theaters, play rooms and just about anywhere some star shine would be nice.
The kit can handle room up to 15 feet by 15 feet. One hundred seventy five fibers are jacketed in groups of seven and 14 in varying lengths from 10 to 20 feet. The fibers don't give off heat and don't require any maintenance. The illuminator is powered by a low-voltage, replaceable halogen lamp.
You'll need access above the ceiling to install the kit. The retailer says the kit is easy to install, and comes with templates for fiber optic fiber placement.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the installation looks time consuming. And you'll want to make sure you've got the placement right because you'll be drilling multiple holes into the ceiling and gluing things into place. The system is controlled by two on/off rocker switches.
