by Deborah Holmes, Ebricks.com
Hemp has been used for clothing, rope, paper, medicines and more. Turns out it's also a safe and durable wood finish.

Oil from hemp is solvent-free, food-safe and waterproof. It can be used indoors or outside on new, stained, or milk-painted wood, and will revive old wood treated with other finishes, according to this manufacturer.

The oil does not leave a film and will not scratch or chip. Since it contains no petro-chemicals, it can be used on wood or stone countertops. Outside, it will restore the luster of surfaces coated with oil paint, and will revive old cast iron and wood.

The oil will darken wood, so you might want to test a board before deciding to use it on a floor.
