by Deborah Holmes, Ebricks.com
This product is not only made of recycled material, the roof tiles themselves are recyclable. The slate look-alike weighs and costs less than the natural material, and comes in three designs and seven colors.

The tiles are made of TPO (thermal polymer olefins), an alloy of polyethylene, polypropylene and EPDM rubber. According to the manufacturer, TPO is the same material that auto manufactuers use for fenders, bumpers, doors and body moldings.

The tiles are created under intense heat and pressure and are tough enough to withstand extremes in temperature, expansion and contraction cycles, and ultra violet rays. The material does not conduct sound, electricity (including lightening) or heat. It's also impact resistant.

The tiles weigh only a quarter of what real slate weighs, or about the same as asphalt shingles, making installation quicker and easier.

TPO can be recycled or burned without toxic emissions in trash-to-energy incinerators.

Authentic Roof is warranted for 50 years.
