Fits like pieces of a puzzle
Do-it-yourselfers won't find Niagara, the newest of Briggs' "puzzle floors" perplexing. The product was designed for homeowners who are handy with a few simple power and hand tools.

Pieces of the solid maple flooring are 24" long with a 6" to 4" tapered width. The gentle wave pattern is more sophisticated than the company's original offering (wood cut into giant jigsaw puzzle pieces).

Available in various stains, the flooring is prefinished with polyurethane and aluminum oxide. The pieces are 5/8" thick and can be sanded and refinished, although the company says the original finish should last for many years.

The company claims that the floor is faster and easier to install than traditional strip flooring. Just in case, the manufacturer has a toll-free help line.

Flooring can be nailed or glued, but gluing is recommended. The average 200 square foot room with a solid, flat subfloor can be completed in 4 to 6 hours, according to the manufacturer. Use oriented strand board or plywood (not particleboard) as a subfloor.

Orders are custom made to fit your measurements and a border system with a straight side is included. You can even be creative and use pieces with more than one stain at no additional charge.
